Julie Holmquist, Esq. CPA, Mediator
Julie has been a lawyer and CPA for over 35 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting in 1981 and her Juris Doctorate in 1984, both degrees from Creighton University. Julie earned her CPA license as an associate with Deloitte & Touche LLP in Kansas City and San Francisco, where she specialized in tax law and consulting.
She opened her own tax firm, J. Crain & Associates in 2001, specializing as an expert financial witness in divorce cases. She maintains this tax firm today. She has served as VP of Finance, Treasurer and CFO for several privately held companies. In the legal arena, she narrowed her focus to family law, estate, and tax law, as well as corporate law, working for several law firms and eventually opening her own practice.
Because she embraces mediation and negotiation over litigation, Julie became a certified mediator in 2010. Armed with a strong financial, tax, investment background, Julie decided to specialize in family law because every divorce has a financial piece, therefore a tax piece, and yet the divorce lawyers, in general, lack a financial tax background. If your client has no children or the children are emancipated, the case is primarily financial.
Today she is the only lawyer, mediator, CPA, forensic accountant, expert witness with 35 years of tax experience, serving clients as a family lawyer.
Julie has served on numerous non profit boards including the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, the Stephanie Waterman Foundation, St. Peter’s Finance Committee as chair, but most notably the advisory committee for Operation Breakthrough (OB). Julie and her family have served OB for over 25 years.
